Otaku
August 14, 2008 at 9:55 pm | In Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu, Otaku are ungrateful bastards?, Over Blissed Dog descended from Heaven | Leave a CommentI watched the currently airing japanese animation, Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu, which means The Secret of Nogizaka Haruka, with interest. I never really thought that being an otaku or an Akiba-kei is such a bad thing in the society. This however may not be true as that’s just the plot of the anime itself. As the anime has the genre of romance and ecchi plus comedy, that’s the reason why it’s so popular. I have watched about 5 episodes of this raw which means recorded off from the television. Chiba-TV in my area to be exact. Just to reveal a little info, Japan does not resemble what it’s depicted in the animes at all. In fact in Japan, youths like us do not really watch much of these animes targetted at a mature age group as it airs late at night. Nogizaka airs just after midnight to be exact in my area and with school and such, even if it’s showing no one bothers to watch or record. Hence animes like these are not really popular and not the talk of the town. Usually animes such as Pokemon, Doraemon which targets children are shown at prime time slots. So we are usually exposed to such.
Enough of my boring rumblings, my exams are coming, the prelims before the actual entrance exams starts. So life is stress and boring. I know 3 fansubs that are currently subbing Nogizaka, and judging from which is most popular, it did be m33w. However, since i watch it raw, I happen to just have seen episode 2 of their release. It’s ok to me as in Japan we just watch the episode without subtitles or Karaoke. But I did recommend Aquastar-anime. They do a far better job in terms of overall fansub ratings. That is those useless karas and raw andquality and such. As for translations, both groups have serious flaws in the accent of the characters as depicted. AQS tend to sound too formal while m33w sounds to casual in serious moments. So translations are not as easy as it seems. H264 for ya, for Xvid visit AQS.
