Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~ eps. 07 – 10

July 29, 2009 at 10:54 pm | In Phantom, Phantom of Inferno, Requiem for the Phantom | Comments Off

Watched 2 episodes 2 days ago, 1 episode today. I may or may not skip the recap episode (11). How nostalgic that last year at exactly this time, I was catching up with Macross Frontier. At that time, I was really ecited about Macross Frontier especially with the love triangle between Sheryl Nome, Ranka Lee and Alto Saotome. I rooted for Ranka but many thought otherwise. In the end, that is end of september, all became clear that the ending was open, much to my disappointment. It was one of the best Macross shows in a while but the open ending lowered my opinion of it.

Now, 1 year later, exactly the same situation but this time round, with Requiem for the Phantom Instead. This is based off an old visual novel by Nitroplus. As the name suggests, Nitroplus is notorious for it’s killing eroge visual novels. Bad endings are nearly that of Type Moon, albeit, Type Moon has a good feel to it. Sad to say, there was a 3 episode OVA of Phantom, titled Phantom the Animation. The ending is bad because it shows Reiji returning to becoming a phantom in the end. Although it can be debated that Elen did not die, she and Reiji are bound to kill each other if they cross each other’s path. I don’t like the ending at all. I was wondering if the producers made this 2009 remake to reshow this tragic scene. If you played the visual novel, Phantom has many endings. Let’s just hope that the producers won’t be so cruel to make another such ending, give me the true ending of Ein (Elen).

Anyway, this 4 episodes reveal a whole lot of the plot with Zwei finding out his identity as Reiji. He tries to run away with Ein who he names Elen but failed after she is still attached to Scythe master. However, we can tell that Reiji and Elen’s relationship is deepening, from a cold apathetic girl, Ein becomes one with some personality. This is romance definitely.

Episode 10 is the turning point where Elen shielded the bullet from Reiji targetted at the Scythe master. Elen then falls into the sea believed to be dead. Reiji becomes extremely distraughted and was shot by the Scythe master. The episode ends showing Reiji being washed ashore. After this, from what I heard, Reiji meets a young girl called Cal who engaged Reiji as an assassin. Soon she falls in love with Reiji and was even roped into being a phantom for the inferno as well. It then talks about how Reiji protects Cal and sparks fly, I suppose.

I asked many people who followed Phantom week after week , they felt more empathy for Cal and many seemed to have gotten over Elen. A couple actually supported Cal and Reiji as a couple. In response to this, i’m extremely sad. I will once again pray, like that in Macross Frontier, that the one I support ends in a good ending. Not many animes have the desired ending that I want, for instance Macross Frontier. Hopefully they will grant my wish…

Kimi no Iru Machi Chp 55 ~Invitation to the Kouyasai

A pretty boring chapter, I have to say… Anyway, I have to be consistent and follow this manga regardless of whether it’s boring or not. But honestly, no manga have ever get me hooked for so long and not getting tired at all. This has to be one of the special ones. The other being Rosario + Vampire which I stopped at the second season. It started to suck.

This episode basically shows Haruto pondering about how to clear up his misunderstanding with Kikukawa. Obviously he didn’t do anything yet, given his procrastination on and on. However, the cafe that they were working on ran out of icecream and they Haruto was told to get some together with Yuzuki. This was the first time they are alone after that holding hands incident. Haruto took the courage to ask Yuzuki about it and it was revealed that she was indeed worried over that incident. Haruto then came up with a stupid lie that he held hands with everybody he knows. He’s just that sort of person, so he claims. Yuzuki seems to have ease up much to Haruto’s relief. Later they talked about whether each other have a partner for Kouyasai. Yuzuki then asked Haruto to take her as partner for the Kouyasai. A change of events.

Thoughts: This chapter did not impress me, neither did the last few. It just feels so random and the plot was boring. Gives the feeling that Seo Kouji was just trying to drag the story and fitting the harem genre of the manga. Also, Yuzuki and Haruto’s unclear relationship is kind of pissing me off. This chapter very much drags them out of the relationship but then Yuzuki asks Haruto to be her partner for Kouyasai…

Read chp 55.

Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~ eps. 03 – 06

After catching up with Valkyria Chronicles at ep 16, here comes another 4 episodes of marathon with Phantom this time. I stalled the show after watching 2 episodes due to licensing by FUNimation. But decided to pick it back up because of the awesomeness of the show.

Won’t talk much since I need to sleep for there’s school tomorrow. What a bummer… I really hope Phantom don’t end badly, because this show gives the impression of the type with a tragic ending. I just love Ein very much. I heard of a young loli character being introduced in later episodes which sees Zwei getting “romantically” involved with her. I support Ein and i’m sure many of you do as well. But anyway, this post is considered outdated but I always do outdated post but I will catch up soon enough like that of Valkyria Chronicles.

Reuqiem literally means a celebration of the dead via means of a song. But not necessarily always performed at the funeral. Note the title of this show, Requiem for the Phantom…

Valkyria Chronicles eps. 13 – 16 ~Unexpressed Feelings~

As the title says, I shall talk about episode 16 since it leaves a deep impression in my heart. Let’s talk about Isara’s attitude which is really commendable. Even though she is discriminated by many people because she is a Darcsen, she does not sccumb to fate and fights to prove herself. Currently, she is trying really hard to get along with Rosie. Having seen Rosie’s past, her parents death were somewhat the fault of the Darcsens. However, this does not mean that all Darcsens are like this. In the next few episodes, hopefully things will patch up. Looking at Rammel and Isara, they look really compatible with one another. This is one of the romance that is slowly developing as the episodes pass by. It’s simple yet the most beautiful of the romance in the show. Isara even called Rammel by his first name in episode 16 when he asked Isara whether she needed a ride. After some teasing by Isara, they went to the market together and viewed the sunset. Hopefully more things develop as we see Rammel changing from the past where he used to hate Isara to now having feelings for her.

On the other hand, the main romance of the show is a love triangle. This is probably the most painful part to watch of romance series. The show does well to blend in drama, action and romance together. Episode 16 dedicates the title unexpressed feelings because Welkin did not have the courage to express his feelings. I think it is obvious that Welkin do like Alicia romantically. It is practically comfirmed that Alicia likes Welkin. But yet, when the two of them are patching things up, Welkin mentioned Faldio. This raises the question of Welkin choosing friendship instead of love. That’s not what Alicia wanted and she asked Welkin if he is okay with Faldio and her. She told Welkin that Faldio confessed to her. The episode ends soon after.

Thoughts: I expect things to happen but lets hope that no casualties shall befall the entire crew. The confusion of Welkin’s relationship with Alicia and Faldio may affect the Squad 7 as well. As for the romance part, I make it clear that I support Welkin as well as Rammel all the way. As for Alicia, she starts to consider Faldio which means doubt is beginning to cover her. Welkin should be clear of his feelings soon.
