Sora no Manimani ep. 01 ~Welcome to the Astronomy Club~

After so long, I will be doing episodic blog once again. But this time round, I will only blog on Sora no Manimani. The reason is simple, because it’s one of the nicer romance anime over these past few months. It has no fanservice unlike Hatsukoi Limited, it’s not as harem and flashy as Akaneiro and Princess Lover, and it’s also has a solid plot in place. This is one of my highly recommended animes this summer. Animeone is doing a good job on it, hopefully they will release promptly.

The ending theme of Sora no Manimani is sung by CooRie, the singer who sings the ending for most of the Da Capo anime series. As can be heard, her songs are nice and soothing. It’s been a year since we heard from her. The title is called “Hoshikuzu no Surround (星屑のサラウンド)”.

As for the actual episode, it introduces the main protagonist, a boy, called Saku. The episode started which a flashback in a dream who see Saku and Mihoshi’s childhood. So it becomes evident that Mihoshi is the main female character of the series. Apparently they knew each other when young and the dream focused on a particlar accident when Mihoshi went up to a tree to watch some stars. There, she fell off and Saku tried to save her but ended up fracturing his arm. No long after, Saku left the town for unknown reasons. He spent his middle school years away from that town. It was revealed later on in the episode that Saku left the town without saying goodbye to Mihoshi. Apparently Sayo, one of the Astronomy club members, with Mihoshi included, mentioned that Mihoshi was also hospitalised. Saku then chided Mihoshi that he doesn’t remember her which brought her to tears. After which, they exchanged regarding what happened.

It turns out a misunderstanding had occured and when Saku is about to leave town, Mihoshi wasn’t about to see him off. This, however, was rebuked by the crying Mihoshi saying that when she got to the hospital, Saku was already gone. It is also stated briefly by Sayo that Mihoshi might have been hospitalise so she couldn’t make it in time. Soon after, Saku joined the Astronomy club to stop Mihoshi from crying. However, in order for the club to be recognised, it must have at least 5 members. So the team (4 person) sourced for members. The Student Council president came by and told them to better make sure they have 5 members. After much taunting, Saku realised the Student Council president was in the Literature club. Something that interests Saku since he loves reading. They then went on good talking terms until Mihoshi stops the conversation. No students wanted to join the club, so Mihoshi thought for a brilliant idea by watching sunspots. However, when Saku and Mihoshi came down with the equipment, it was raining. The members were gloomy and went back to the club room. Saku then headed off to the library to source for some pictures in hopes of attracting people to come and join. The episode ends later with Mihoshi watching the stars with Saku. He commented that it has been sometime since they have watched the stars.

Thoughts: My review was a little messed up, but I just wrote without refering or editing. About the episode, it was a good start as we see the main characters being established. Hopefully more romantic developments will occur. I have taken an instant liking to Mihoshi, she is voiced by seiyu Kanae Ito while Saku is voiced by Tomoaki Maeno. Kanae Ito also voices Hinamori Amu in Shugo Chara, so her sweet voice may sound familiar to some.
